ALENA SHYMCHONAK

       Alena Shymchonak is an Estonian contemporary artist whose distinctive visual language combines the expressive freedom of Impressionism with a bold, contemporary approach to colour, texture, and composition.             Working primarily with a palette knife, she builds her paintings through rich layers of paint and dynamic, gestural strokes, creating surfaces that feel almost sculptural.

Inspired by travel, nature, Mediterranean landscapes, alpine scenery, and the atmosphere of places, Shymchonak is less interested in literal representation than in capturing the emotional essence of a moment.    Her elevated perspectives transform familiar landscapes into vibrant compositions, where expansive spaces, movement, and tiny human figures come together to create a strong sense of life and energy.

Colour plays a central role in her work. Rather than simply reproducing what she sees, Shymchonak uses colour intuitively and expressively to convey light, atmosphere, emotion, and memory.

        Her paintings often evoke the feeling of being somewhere special, the warmth of a summer day by the sea, the exhilaration of the mountains, or the quiet beauty of an everyday moment.
